This seminar offers in-depth insights into the genetic basics and the significance of pedigrees for breeding practice. We will focus on how we firstly obtain the data we actually need, and secondly get the most out of that data. Unfortunately, good breeding planning also involves just that: analysing and interpreting numbers, names and pedigrees.

And to help you a little with this, we have developed this seminar: we go through the most important key figures and coefficients step by step. We discuss not only where these figures come from, but also what exactly they mean. COI, COR, AVK and EBV – what sounds like nonsense is actually an extremely valuable tool for estimating risks and prevalences. But, as the saying goes: software is only as good as its user. And that also applies to these key figures. That’s why this seminar is a little more theoretical than the others. However, we have of course tried to do as much of the work for you as possible, and built the appropriate functions and tools into our database. We will also cover these in detail here.

After this seminar, you will not only be able to determine the values, but also to interpret and relate them. You will be able to see more in the pedigree, horizontally and vertically, than just pretty pictures of the parents and estimate how close the phenotype and genotype are in terms of heritability. You may even get a completely new perspective on what ‘good’ and ‘bad’ breeding dogs are! In any case, you will be able to back up your next breeding plan with important considerations, precise evaluations, and all the important numbers!
