After many conversations, meetings and endless hours of research and careful consideration, it is certain: AmiCanis Wolfhunde will welcome their first litter in spring/summer 2025!
We have decided on a very special combination for our Ada: The father of the litter will be Togo, a Saarloos Wolfdog from the Netherlands. The litter will therefore not only be our first litter and a litter under the the EWA, but also an official outcross litter for the Saarloos Wolfdog via the NVSWH.
We expect Ada to start her heat in the course of winter/spring and the puppies to be born in spring/summer. We are really looking forward to this combination and are excited to follow the development of our first litter!

Saarloos WolfdogAda’s pedigree is a true best-of of german wolfdog breeding, which is why the search for a suitable male dog proved to be quite a challenge. Genetic diversity played a major role, as did a suitable character and a matching appearance. As Ada was very emotional and impulsive during her puberty, we specifically looked for a balanced, calm counterpart.
Through a friend, we came into closer contact with the Saarloos Wolfdog as a breed in 2021. Many of the Saarloos I got to know impressed me with their calm, people-orientated nature – quite different to the ‘shy’ image often portrayed in the media. I also learned more about the breed’s outcross programme, which serves to preserve genetic diversity. After intensive research and discussions with the Dutch Saarloos Association NVSWH, the course was set for a collaborative litter.
Consequently, the litter will take place, supervised by the EWA and the NVSWH, as part of the NVSWH’s outcross programme. Accordingly the litter was approved by the official outcross committee. This means that although Ada is a wolfdog mix, the puppies will be ‘G1’ Saarloos wolfdogs on paper. Some of the puppies will add to the breed’s population through the NVSWH and hopefully contribute to the Saarloos Wolfdog gene pool in the future. The other part of the puppies will be registered through the EWA and thus, just like Ada, will be part of the wider wolfdog mix population. If you are interested in an Outcross puppy, you need to contact not only me but the NVSWH as well. You can contact them here.
Khalibisnya Maginwulf Togo, short Togo, is a male Saarloos Wolfdog born in 2022 who lives in the Netherlands. He combines French and Dutch Saarloos lines. In 2023, long before he was considered as a potential partner for Ada, he caught my eye at a Saarloos show with his calm, composed demeanour. Despite his young age, he was relaxed in the show ring while dogs of all ages were led past him.
When it finally came to deciding on a stud dog, Togo was on the selection list. It was important to me to get to know him personally, which was possible on two occasions in 2024. At another show, he once again showed his calm, confident nature and was friendly and polite towards both people and other dogs. Ada also immediately liked him and after a walkie together, the decision was finally made in favour of him.
In addition to his pleasant character, Togo has an appealing look: he is slim and long-legged with a strongly pigmented coat and a smooth gait. His golden yellow eyes and gentle expression round off his appearance.
Ada is our five-year-old wolfhound who, despite a somewhat chaotic start with puppies and puberty in the middle of the corona lockdown and the associated hurdles in terms of socialisation, has developed into a curious, cheerful companion. At home, she is an absolutely relaxed house dog and a real couch potato. Ada has never read all the horror stories about destroyed furniture, open doors and windows and jumped fences: She can be left alone for hours at a time, would never think of breaking anything here, can hang out unsupervised in the garden despite the waist-high fence and goes into her bedroom by 10pm at the latest because she needs her beauty sleep 😉
Outside, Ada loves long walks in the nature. She is very oriented towards me, has minimal hunting drive and can therefore often run offleash. Ada is ignorant to reserved towards most strangers. She is unsure of people who ‘behave strangely’ (e.g. staring, limping), although her curiosity usually outweighs this and she quickly warms up. For a long time she found children scary, but this year she had her first positive experiences with a friend’s one-year-old daughter and proved to be extremely gentle and careful.
Smells are Ada’s passion, starting with tracking and mantrailing through to perfuming herself in various scents. Unfortunately, her palette ranges from good smells such as soap, freshly washed laundry and sawdust to the essences of nature (yuck!). But at least she likes water very much, including the bathtub.
We expect puppies from this mating that are a good blend of both parents in terms of appearance and character. The puppies will be exclusively wolf-grey (agouti), with colour nuances ranging from cream/beige to reddish-brown. As both Ada and Togo are around 70cm tall, we expect puppies to be up at around 70cm and 30kg – slim and leggy, but not bulky.
In terms of character, we are looking for cheerful, family-orientated wolfdogs with a polite, reserved nature that are suitable as companions for nature outings. We also hope that this mating will further strengthen the social compatibility of both lines.
